Hi Brandon, Fuchs was co-sponsor of the Nivea-Fuchs racing team in the 50s, upon which Fiorenzo Magni raced, as you mentioned, and where Faliero Masi appears to have been head mechanic.

A Google search for Nivea Fuchs brings up some results. Here is the pertinent clip from a 2009 article written about Ernesto Colnago on the occasion of his 77th birthday:

"Colnago worked on his first Giro d'Italia in 1954 as second mechanic on the Nivea-Fuchs team, led by Fiorenzo Magni. His boss that year was Faliero Masi and the young Colnago headed out to the '54 Giro with his uncles carboard suitcase full of hopes and dreams." http://www.roadbikeaction.com/fly.aspx?layout=content&taxid=69&cid=1151

The N-F team and some goings on there are discussed in this article of a Colnago interview: http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/sponsors/italia/2004/colnago/?id=colnago3

There were more results that I did not look at. You can also change Google searches to find images, with some results, but perhaps not many.

There is a Facebook fan page called "Rad Fuchs" with modern bikes, but I saw at least one pic of an old bike, so you might be able to find people who know more there: http://www.facebook.com/radfuchs

I have some 1950s Italian sports magazines, and can possibly find some Magni on bicycle images in them, but a lot of the time, he rode Wilier bikes. I don't know if there is a connection there or not.

On another note, in order to remain on-list, be sure to sign off all posts to the CR list with your first and last name, and the city, state or province, and country you are posting from, without abbreviations. In order to help members worldwide know where a writer is posting from, this is a firm CR list rule, and Listmaster Dale will boot you off the list for violations of the rules, which you should probably review here: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/CR_list_rules.htm

Best of luck with your search, and do tell us what you find!

Hi everyone,

My name is Brandon Gillin, and I am a newbie here. I have a really interesting old bike that, when I bought it at a yard sale last summer, I was told was made in 1959 in Italy. The brand says "Fuchs" -- and the frame is all metal, silver, and the lugs are phenomenal. It really looks like someone put a lot of work into this bike. I have done some research on Fuchs, and there's not much out there. All I have found is this:

1) Fuchs ("The Faster Fox") was a well respected Italian brand by Giovanni Tappella (Milan, Italy)

Tappella supplied machines for at least 10 famous racers, including Fiorenzo Magni. (http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Italy/fuchs.htm)

2) Alberto Masi recently restored the Fuchs that Fiorenzo Magni rode when he won the 1955 Giro in Italy. (http://oakwoodlife.blogspot.com/2009/09/alberto-masi-restoration.html) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyhiEsL_qHs)

That's all I know. Can someone please give me some more background on Fuchs bicycles? They seem to have some affiliation with Masi. Were they all made by Masi?

I'd appreciate any information anyone can offer!

You can see photos on the Facebook.com group I created called "Fuchs Bicycles"

Thanks!
