As an owner of a near original '72 PX-10 and a couple early '60's UO-8's I very much enjoy all the discussion and insight into the peculiarities of this bike and it's Simplex derailleurs. My UO-8's are equipped with Simplex Juy 61 RD's and I find them to shift remarkably well, and to be very easy to maintain. Their only downside, I believe, is the somewhat un-refined design of the pivot spring mechanisms on these early models. I wonder how it would have changed the fortunes of Simplex had chosen to develop this design in alloy rather than plastic.

When I began riding in the very early '60's, the only Simplex RD's I remember were of the chain pull design. We never thought very highly of Simplex mechanisms until one of my buddies acquired a Peugeot equipped with one of these early Juy 61 Export derailleurs. I remember marveling at the time at how easy it was to adjust.
