I was querying what brakes this bike may have had and I am 100% sure that
the rear was a Resilion Cantilever. I got to stripping bits off it for
cleaning and discovered that the rear brake bridge has not been sleeved. A
small sleeve in the brake bridge to prevent crushing is a Gillott hallmark.
Then I put 2 and 2 together. The other feature being the 'U' shaped clips
for the rear brake cable. Not stops for an exposed run. The clip nearest the
rear seat tube is a good 4'' from the tube which looked odd to me. It is
there to allow space for the Resilion cable splitter. It all makes sense
now. Once this was established I looked carefully at the seat stays and sure
enough there are witness marks. Now I need to clean the forks and have alook
there. The levers that are fitted are LAM and an early MAFAC. Has anyone
any experience of operating Resilions with these types of levers?
