Brooks was bought out in 2003 by Selle Royal of Italy.

The rain cape is certainly not a new idea, if you happen to watch the Brooks Saddles history videos (two of them I believe on YouTube) you'll see better information on products they have and haven't released dating many, many years back.

A company with significant history trying to stay afloat against the mighty Far East. I applaud them.

Lou, ? You could say I'm a bit obsessed with Hetchins, but as opposed to collecting later more ornate Hetchins, my family of cycles is getting to the elder period. I've 6 Pre-War Hetchns not including the Brilliant including?H297 the oldest surviving. ? Pre-war are: 35 H297,?Frameset only, restored about 1940 with very rare decals. May be the oldest. 38 Anglo-Continental, 2nd oldest surviving Anglo. 38 or 39 Anglo Continental Special, Full chrome unrestored. One of only two known. 38 Tour de France at Argos for refinishing. The only Tour de France to survive. 38 Competition, one of only three surviving with cut outs in the lugs. 39 Trio, fully unrestored and original. Up until last year the only Trio known. Since then two framesets have surfaced. ? Best regards, Peter??

I think this is very cool that Peter has cornered the market on these very early Hetchins. ?Just a couple of years ago, he posted the below post, where he had the 5th oldest and 7th oldest. ?Now he comes along with the 6th oldest. ?I can understand why you have specialized in one make Peter. ?It must take quite a bit of research to stay on top of this. ? Lou Deeter, Orlando FL USA"I also possess two Pre-war Brilliants, a 1935 which is the 5th oldest surviving Hetchins on the register, and a 1936 that as of a few years ago was the 7th oldest surviving Hetchins. The "36" needs restoration but is complete and I'm interested in selling it for $2500 or B/O or will consider trade for another rare pre-war Hetchins. Jpgs will be available. I'd rather sell it outright to raise funds to restore my 1939 Hetchins Trio."

For sale: A 1936 Hetchins Brilliant frame and fork. Frame serial # 63205. I purchased it years ago with restoration in mind, but in turn sold it to a friend who started restoration but ill health stopped the progress. Now I've the frame back but a few other cycles in Britain have come my way so I'm putting the Hetchins up for sale. The frame is in primer and ready to paint, with a full chrome fork that will need refinishing. Sorry not a double plate fork crown but a typical fork crown of Hetcins in the mid-30s. When I purchased the frame about 7-8 years ago it was the 6th oldest surviving Hetchins.I will call Len Ingram to get it's current status tomorrow. ? As of a few weeks ago a totally destroyed rust bucket?Brillisnt sold for $536. To check it out click onto the URL below: ?http://ebay.com/<blah>

Based?on the price for the totally destroyed rust bucket on eBay I'm pricing this rare Brilliant at $1200 or B/O. If you think my price is high I'm open to offers. ? There are 1930s parts to go with it if wanted that I've collected, and will photo to sell aspart of a package or separately. ? Best regards, Peter ~~~~~ ?

Like my good friend Colin! I have many many memories of the Yellow Oil skin and plastic capes. For many years I rode every day in the week to work on my Claud from Yardley my home to the Reynolds factory in Tyesley,Brum, Several time the bloody straps broke inside the cape to hold on to. what a hand full that could make in a gale force wind. BUT they did the job! Even wearing the wool sweater in the light blue and dark blue strip (my Midland C&AC Colours), that my MUM God bless, her knitted for me, it kept almost dry . I do have on my 1953 Claud, now, a oil skin yellow cape, rolled up and strapped on the Baycliff bag just like the GOOD old days. Cheers John Crump Old&tocoldforacapeBrit, snowed in Parker,Co USA

Wayne & MJ - Like everyone else, I've been awed with the thoroughness and professionalism with which you've done Cirque the past three years, building on Dale's foundation. We can only thank you, again, and wish you every success with MPI and Velo-Classique.

Beloved Spouse and I were heavily involved in producing two Eastern Tandem Rallies ('80 and '87), comparable in size to Cirque, and have a pretty good idea of how much work it is, even when we had five couples.   I hope that those of us who live in the area will be able to provide deeper support "next time," so you two don't have to carry so much of the burden yourselves. Harvey Sachs mcLean va

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear friends and enthusiasts -   After 3 years of organizing the Cirque du Cyclisme here in Leesburg, MJ and I have decided that we need to take a break for 2011.  As many of you know, last year's Cirque was quite challenging for us, both organizationally and financially.  Costs increased while resources declined.  The tough economy probably also contributed to people not making the commitment to participate until the very last minute, or not being able to attend at all.  All of this added to the difficulty of organizing and financing the event.

In addition, my acquisition and re-establishment of Mel Pinto Imports and creation of my retail shop Velo Classique has been extremely time consuming this past year, and it doesn't look like there will be much relief this Spring.

However, we are not ready to "throw in the towel" just yet.  We have some new ideas, but believe that more strategic planning is needed and there has not been the time available to do that.  It was a difficult decision, but we feel that taking a sabbatical this year will give us a chance to regroup and work on a better Cirque for 2012.

We want to sincerely thank all attendees, volunteers and supporters from the past and look forward to adopting new and different ideas in the future.  As always, we appreciate your comments, suggestions and ideas, and look forward to considering a wide range of options for the future.

So, while we plan for 2012, Dale Brown has decided to organize a similar but different event for our same enthusiast base, but in Greensboro, North Carolina, on May 20-22, 2011. Info for that event can be accessed here (with more to come!):

Thanks!

For sale I have a NOS Huret Multito odometer. These odometers are a great addition to virtually any classic bike! Pictures can be found here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/55077740@N05/sets/72157625696586030/

It has been hiding in one of my cabinets for years now, and is in perfect condition w/original instructions and unopened parts bag. The box.... well it's seen better days... but the odometer is perfect.

I'm asking $20 plus shipping, I'm PayPal-able.

Find a Sutherland's catalog or borrow one, it has charts in the spoke lengths sections covering all the bead seat diameter / ERTO sizes - and their related marketing size.  I'm pretty sure there's also a page in there on how to measure

bead set / ERTO diameter...

Or grab a chart online of the same.  There are usually instruction on how to measure the actual rim in order to get the bead set or ERTO diameter.

I had to do this with a H-Plus-Son EERO a couple months back that turned out to

be a rim specifically aimed at "Terry" bikes.  It was kinda weird but it happens...

You won't be able to do exact measurements...but you'll get within a millimeter

or so of what will be the most likely spec on a given chart.

If no-one there wears them, from whence comes the opinion they are un-aerodynamic?

I've used my dark-green Duxback perhaps a dozen times over the years. It can get you killed at least two ways, including the aforementioned color issue but also when you perform the newbie trick of sitting up and yanking the handlebar with a thump loop.

However, I've been surprised by how sleek it seems to the wind. There is very little additional frontal area presented by the thing, and quite a bit of "fairing" effect. At times, I've thought I might be faster with it than without it. Perhaps I just don't think clearly in the rain, in the dark, in a cape on my bike.

Anybody for coast-down testing?
