Hi, Glenn--- I don't claim to be the world's greatest tire size expert, but I've always found Sheldon Brown's page extremely useful for comparing and contrasting tire sizes. Basically, 700c tires are 622mm diameter ISO and 27 inch are 630mm diameter ISO. (International Standard Organization). But there is much more to it than that. Sheldon explains how the letters "A", "B", "C" etc. are all delineations of various tire widths and how this variation impacts actual tire diameters, etc. Here's the link for all the details....
