Yeah, except it can't work! That type of pinch bolt, as is used on almost every seat post in the world EXCEPT a Legnano, depends on closing up a slot to tighten things. This BB shell has no slot for the bolt to work on! Although there is a hint of a slot, like there may have been one there before, but it was brazed shut during the restore process? Or they put the pinch bolt on and forgot to slot it?

So the answer to the OP's question, what does it do? It adds three ounces to the weight of the bike -- and that's ALL it does.

Still a very fine and interesting bike, I'm not knocking it!
