Was out on the usual Sunday ride, all was well. Then gears started to misbehave and was aware of tyre touching frame when peddaling hard. Then every time I got out of the saddle on a climb it felt like the brakes were on. Stopped and inspected, the lh chainstay had a crack about 1 inch from the BB shell. I made it home and have now transferred most parts to another frame. My question is, can it be repaired? I have welding facilities but as the frame is bonded am worried the heat will break down the bonding. Was contemplating immersing the BB in water, leaving the crack just above it and welding it. Would I trust it afterwards? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
