Maybe it is because the Regina freewheels were still in widespread use then (though most took the splined remover by then) and Campy made a whole tool kit just for the freewheel, including tools to take apart the body.

Bicycle Research made the Campy freewheel remover separately, for use in a vise or crescent wrench. It had the proper angled drivers. I've seen too many Campy freewheels ruined by using a Regina tool with straight drivers.

Interestingly, the Regina tool in the Campy large tool kit had drivers that were outboard of the center ring as well as inboard, so it doesn't work on a Regina freewheel as is. I ground them off of mine so it does. Anyone know why this was, or what it was for?

I remember being disappointed because they were the ld version of the tool, designed to fit old 2-prong Regina freewheels, ather than the new tool with the helical prongs for Campy's own reewheel which had recently been released. -- -John Thompson (john(AT)os2.dhs.org) Appleton WI USA
