One more Bates on england eBay with the funny reverse fork blades Item number: 250756819246 Listings states in part,'' Rare top of the range model that enjoyed many racing successes in the 40's/50's
Made from Reynolds 531 and incorporating 'Cantiflex' tubing, whereby the frame tubing is wider in the middle than at the ends - looks quite dramatic in the flesh.
Also incorporating the famous 'Diadrant' front forks.
Dating from the late 1950's. Frame number B17971 - possibly a '58 build
The frame is sound and straight, no dings, a small rust patch on the underside of the downtube where the gear levers sit, not very apparent unless you go looking for it.
The chrome is in absolutely great condition, really nice and shiny and no rust or pitting on the chrome.
Decent paint job - pretty clean, Nervex lugs
Unfortunately the Bates decals leave a little to be desired but they'll all come off quite
easily and new ones can readily be found at http://www.hlloydcycles.com/
Frame includes:
a.. Braze on for single gear lever, b.. Nice condition vintage headset, c.. Good condition non-vintage square taper bottom bracket d.. Also included are a pair of beautiful Bluemels 'Olympic' mudguards and fittings in great condition. e.. Free seatpost (not pictured) f.. The previous owner fitted 700c wheels, 27" also fit.
