Subject: [CR] Why tandems are not popular

My wife and I have a '95 Comotion Double Espresso purchased new. We've logged many successful miles on it over the years. We did have one big fight during a ride; I scared the crap out of her trying to catch another tandem descending in Dear Creek Canyon west of Denver. She actually pounded on my back! (I can't hear very well) All in all it was a wise but large investment. Dividing the original cost by 15 years of use makes it seem very reasonable. Rent or borrow a tandem or two before buying. For transport we have to rely on my work truck (not too classy) instead of the nice AC equipped vehicle that my wife uses. Communication is a big issue for many riders. I'd say that if you & your stoker have a tendency to disagree vigorously ;-) don't try a tandem.
