I've switched my framebuilders membership over already since that's the first to change.

There is a digest, looks like it will arrive either daily or every 25 messages.

And if I read it right from framebuilders Alex is keeping the archives end of things running, including the new messages.

Plus Google groups allows attachments like pictures. Just tried it, and it looks pretty good!

Dale,

If there are no more archives and there is no more digest there will be significant changes in participation. There ought to be several options beyond Google to get around this, but I am unsure of how to approach this as I am not a programmer.

Are all of the bikelist.org lists moving to the same platform? There ought to be a way to find ways to host all the bikelist.org lists together under one digital "roof" with a new host or platform if we put our efforts to this end....

I'm hoping that there will be ways to accomplish this transition without major format changes....

Hi folks:

As many of you know, our email list has been a very kind service provided by Alex Wetmore, a private person (vs a company) who just happens to be a cycling enthusiast. He is tiring of the extra attention and problems this has entailed as his many lists (Framebuilders, Touring, etc.) have grown.

So, we will migrate this list to Google lists in the near future. I will send out an invitation to all old members; no one will be automatically added.

This is good in that this is a large & stable service. Bad in that we will see Google ads, lose the Digest version, and I am not sure about archives (do they exist for Google groups?) In fact, I am not familiar with this Google service from an admin aspect, I have heard there are issues with spamming etc., but we will just have to work through it all.

I suspect having no digest, we will lose a few members. C'est la vie, I'm afraid; there is no better option I am aware of...
