{Classic Rendezvous} Test Posting

I followed the instructions by clicking on the link in Dales' invitation, and began receiving email right away. But am I a member of the group or not??? I want to change to digest mode, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. When I try to log in using my email address and password, it fails. Is it necessary to have a Google Account to make this work, or does Google just want me to think I need one? Why can't I find an explanation anywhere for any of this??!
