It's something that's unique to Google Groups and Thunderbird, because I get the same result for all the Google Groups I'm subscribed to. The "easiest" way I've found to reply just to the sender is to click on the "reply to sender and all recipients" in the Thunderbird toolbar (double arrows with the theme I'm using) and then delete the list address.
