It may depend on the email client you use. If you reply on line in Google Groups, there is a "Reply to sender" button. However, my email client (Thunderbird) handles the [CR] and {CR} lists differently. With the former, the "Reply" button replied to the sender, whereas with the latter, it replies to the group.
