Subject: [CR] What do you ride ?

I'm normally reticent about 'wot you got? ' but Peter's question raised a smile & I asked my wife 'why do you need 18 pairs of shoes in the scullery (and far more in the bedroom) and 3 wardrobes full of clothes you never wear ?' I have sentimental attachment to many of the machines as I suppose she may have to garments which the Thrift shop has been cheated from. We are still married despite this and : 1971 Raleigh Pro MkIV, mainly Campag, frame a gift from Gerald o' Donovan who owned/sold/ then ran Carlton for Raleigh. 1968 Major Nicholls road bike, in bits but a classic steel lightweight. 1980s Argos, Campag, inherited from the late Ray Ward, UK TT and track champion. Nice, but a bit modern (!) 1950s Higgins bicycle, ASC hub gear, inherited locally from a cycling friend. 1968-ish 6 day track-bike, ultra steep, part of my wages from Albert Fritz for looking after him/Kemper one year at the Skol 6. 1975 Southern Cross 'stayer' bike, frame built for me by Stan Lang. Used for 4 seasons behind the big motors. TA ring set, 62-70t. 1954 Higgins one wheel drive tricycle, awaiting re-assembly after painting. Bought by me as a 14 year old. A year or 3 ago. 1960s Higgins differential tricycle, mainly Campag. 1950s Claud Butler USWB tandem with 1964 Higgins OWD tandem trike axle brazed on. I still hold 2 Club records on this, embarassingly. 1975 Southern Cross hybrid road/track tandem, awaiting assembly, gift from Stan Lang for doing his paperwork. There is also a Post Office bike frame awaiting the addition of a Sinclair Goddard engine-assist. And wheels (of which I also have quite a lot.....) Helping in all these 'assembly' projects should I ever be able to afford to retire will be my Swedish friend, Gunnar Getroundtuit...... John Purser Sudbury, UK

I have quite a collection of machines and have a reason for each. My wife occasionally asks why so many and why do you need to buy another ?
