Thanks, Tony, was it the 118mm spindle?

Tom,

I have installed a VO cartridge BB in my '55 Hetchins. I am using Stronglight 49D cranks. It all went together without a murmur. However, I did need to use an 0.020" spacer on the drive side, so that the backs of the chainring bolts wouldn't foul the chainstay.

Dear List:

A note from Velo Orange suggests the 118 with a spacer as the way to go.  However they also caution that some old Stronglight cranks had an ISO taper (Campy style).  That's a new one to me, and a check of the archives for "stronglight taper" didn't come up with anything on this issue.  Were there old models of Stronglight Cranks with ISO tapers?  My understanding is that Stronglight (and TA) arms aren't exact JIS either, but close enough for a working fit.

I would still appreciate any input from someone who acutally used a VO BB with a Stronglight double vintage crank, for a real world check on what works.  Thanks.

Dear List:

Looking for a user BB for my french Follis and a Stronglight 93 cranks.  Velo Orange is an obvious source for a French thread sealed BB unit.  However does anyone know for sure what size spindle to use?  Classic Stronglights used a 118mm spindle for a double, but I recall it had a 4-5mm offset to the right.  So would a VO 118 be too close on the right side?  I'm guessing I need to buy a 121mm and maybe use a spacer, but I'm hoping someone knows for sure.  Rear spacing is 120mm, chainstays are very straight without flare.  Chainrings 52x40.  Couldn't find anything in the archives.  Thanks in advance.
