Hub help, and knowledge needed.
I have a beautiful pair of Chater Lea SF hubs, 32x40 from the great prewar English engineering bicycle era, probably '30's manufacture.
Don't appear to be '20's or '40's, but I could be wrong.
These have an adjustable threaded bearing cup with lockring on the LH side, and a fixed threaded cup on RH side just like a bottom bracket, with spindle and cone surfaces.
I am missing the spacer washers on both rear and front hubs. There is around race extension that comes out toward the fork ends that is too small in diameter to tighten against the fork ends without damaging frame and fork tips.
The axle has a little non threaded section at this shoulder that would appear to be there for a spacer so that the surface would be enlarged so as not to damage the tips and seat snugly.
Any help with a source? Outside nuts, I have but if easy, then I could get some too.
Also the front hub has a shoulder for the lockring but when tightened down after adjustment there is no room for the spoke bend, and it would seem that it needs a small/thin spacer to let spoke bend clear.
Or, did they lace that side with all the heads facing out to clear?
I've got some nice used oulde spokes that are 15/17 types that look perfect for these hubs, and I'd love to put them on a period correct English marque as they demand and command to be.
The rear hub has adequate clearance for lacing.
These spin like a dream and deserve mounting into a proper rimset.
Any help/contacts/ suggestions, mates?
