Ahoy ! Finesse, and detail touches the topic here (or, Since I can't build them well, I may as well build them pretty).
This concerns the practice of sighting through the rim valve hole being able to read rim labels and hub markings on a built wheel.
Please confirm my guesses. Thank you.
Reference: the Observer (born before 1983 or begat by a KOF) is standing on the drive side of the on-topic bicycle and sights down through the rim valve hole 1) Rim label can be read left-to-right, same as normal text. 2) Hubs 2a) If markings circumscribe (go around) the hub then, hub markings are read left to right same as normal text. 2b) If markings are axial then, hub markings are read like book spines: top-to-bottom if the bike is English or American but, bottom-to-top if the bike is French. Any idea what the Italian custom is? (Joh P: Can "youse" speak to the Italian custom? How are the library books shelved?) Seriously: honest question. Not attempting satire. I do believe book spine printing differs by country. And, I am assuming the hub markings would replicate that with which the builder is familiar.
