"Min. insertion lines? We don't need no stinkin' min. insertion lines!"
(If I may paraphrase an old movie line....).
Neither post nor stem had 'em for many decades; I'd suggest that you insert the stem until the binding area (end) of the stem is a least below the threaded portion of the steerer, but 1.5" of insertion is also sometimes given as a min. guideline.
Cheers,
Greg "retrogrouch" Parker

RE: [Classicrendezvous] gb stem
Hi all. My Raleigh Super Tourer has a GB stem. Recently I decided to yank the bars up a bit, gave them a bit too much umph, and pulled the stem/bars out (what can I say -- I'm Jackie Chan's stunt double). After doing this I noticed something a little disconcerting: the stem doesn't seem to have a min insertion line. Is this common? How much stem should I leave in b4 I start risking injury?
