Subject: [Classicrendezvous] THANK YOU Excell/OMAS/GALLI afficiandos

Wow,
thank you for all the info on the variety of Italian component manufacturers!! I am basically a Campy fan, but am always amazed by what components are out there if one is not too afraid to get off the beaten track. You guys great! All the info about items I have not heard about for 15 years comes back ten-fold! I am saving all those messages. Not that I can add much to your knowledge base, but a couple of things go through my mind and wonder if they can be corroborated 1. I believe I read some where that OMAS was absorbed by GPM sometime in the late 70s. 2. I believe Galli spec'd roller bearings in their BBs, Headsets, and pedals. However, all the Galli pedals I have seen "in the flesh" were never pro quality. I have seen pictures of Galli high-end pedals made by Barelli (of Britain?) that came with the roller bearings. 3. I too had heard on Lon Haldeman doing the RAAM on Excell-Rino components. I was visiting a bike shop in Winnipeg about 10 years ago and recall seeing whole Excell grouppos. I was impressed by the hardness of the crank chainrings--Campy quality (or better?)
The same shop also carried several "Roto" grouppos. I am pretty sure that Roto brand is from Italy also. They had a Zeus bike spec'd out with Higher-end Roto parts. however, they also had some extremely cheap---and I mean Huffy quality--Roto derailluers. Although my memory is a bit foggy that far back, I also recall they had some Regina derailluers--who made them, etc? I have no idea.
Again Thanks for all the discussions. Cheers, Dave Anderson
