Chuck:

I have read and thoroughly enjoyed your timeline. I am really most familliar with the Campy stuff from the years that I have been involved with bikes, either racing or working in shops. This means that most of my direct knowledge is of the stuff made since about 1980. I could probably claim a fair degree of understanding of slightly older equipment since a lot of stuff from the 1970's was still being used when I got into racing. Remember how people used to race on gear that was sometimes several years old? WOW!

All this having been said, I do have a couple of comments/questions:

There is no indication in your timeline of when the Record (NR/SR) shifter was changed from the bumpy, relieved to the engraved design. Ditto the earlier change from the flat to the conical out cover plate on the shifter,

I think the Hi/Lo hub might have been available well before your date, which I think was 1982. A friend of mine had a set at least a couple of years before that. I'll try to get more specifics on that.

There is pretty much an eneormous number of tiny differences that took place throughout the post-CPSC era. As examples: the finish on the NR BB's and even that markings and thread taper changed over time; The Nuovo Super Record seatpost (the 1 bolter) came in at least three versions; SR headset finishes and the shape of the locknut appear to vary in a time-dependent fashion; the spring was repositioned on the SR in 1984 or 1985; there are tons of other little changes in the derailleurs and hubs in particular, but also in the calipers, pedals, toeclips, etc. Most of the changes amount to differences in markings and logos. I have to admit, while I have a good handle on what the differences are, and generally the order in which they occurred, I am less certain about the specific dates. I will try to write up some of my observations, probably on a component-at-a-time basis, and post it all here for comment.
