I use a digital diet scale which resolves to the tenth of an ounce, which is 2 or 3 grams. I've weighed both Fiamme Ergal and Mavic GEL280 rims and found them to be about 280 and 295 grams, respectively.

Since you ask about "lightweight sewup wheels" I'll repeat what I use on my modern bike: Fiamme Ergals in 28h front and rear, laced 3x all the way around with 15/16/15 spokes and alloy nipples. Modern hubs: an American Classic Micro front hub and a World Class Campy 8-speed rear with Ti body. The wheels weigh 1200 grams together: 500 for the front, 700 for the rear.

I've horded a few lightweight sewup rims because I want enough to last my lifetime and I see no compelling reason to use anything newer.

In comparing this with other scales over the years, I have found it to be accurate. Each rim was weighed several times to check consistency.
