Subject: [CR]6 spd. indexing problem

Hi all,

I have a Peugeot PGN-10 that I use as my everyday "rider". When I bought the bike it had a real mix of various components on it, and I junked them in favor of an older Shimano 600 indexed drive train.

Everything is great but the 6 speed indexed shifting. When pedaling hard, it will autoshift. I've tried greasing the shifting cable under the bottom bracket per Sheldon's article, new freewheel's, chains, etc. I think the problem is in the shift levers themselves, they don't quite mate up to the frame properly due to the braze-ons being mounted on a "lug"(?). The little plastic spacers don't quite mate up with the frame due to this lug, and the screws to bolt the levers up are a bit short. Also, while the levers do index, 4 of the 6 gears don't really click into place solidly like they should.

Has anyone ever solved this problem? I'd love some advice before I take a file to it!

Thanks,
