As recently as a few years ago, Bianchi (current owner of the Legnano brand, as you know) produced (and may still produce) (gasp!) "city" bikes and (double gasp!) mountain bikes under the Legnano label. The Bianchi (Italy) website used to have a page on Legnano (I don't see it there right now but someone may find it). I saved it when I first read it and it can be read here:

The last paragraph is the most telling. A depressing fate for such a gloried racing marquee, no?
