Tom,

Your are correct about the running changes in manufacturing of the front derailleur. Thanks for elaborating.

I am pretty sure ALL the 1st gen. C-Rec. rear derailleurs came with spring loaded mounting bolts. I wasn't until the into of the 2nd gen. ('87) rear derailleur, that the spring was eliminated. The 2nd gen. can quickly be distinguished by the window in the lower pulley area of the outer cage plate but still retained the engraved shield logo. It was the 3rd gen. that came with the anodized script logo (approx '90).

As Mark said, it's first generation C-record. However, I don't think these versions were standard throughout the '84 to '87 period that he refers to. Your front derailleur is a very early version on which the lower inside pivot is at the same height as the lower outside pivot. This made the derailleur oddly tall and required that the braze on mounting bolt be attached low on the main body rather than threading through the upper inside pivot as it later would. Soon after the intro of C the lower inside pivot was moved down to a position behind the chain cage, giving the derailleur the same basic geometry as a SR/NR braze-on. This permitted a more conventional mounting arrangement while still allowing the standard position of the braze-on. The clamp-on model retained the high inside pivot.

The rear derailleur you have may have the tinkery spring-loaded mounting bolt that was supposed to speed up wheel changes. A lot of tehse broke and Campy reverted to an ordinary NR/SR setup soemtime before the (1988?) "redisign" that added the pulley cage cutout and script logo.

Anyway, these are pretty much the only C-rec derailleurs that aren't technically "off topic" for CR.
