Martin,
Your comments seemed correct to me if you are
considering the design of a "normal" trike using
small wheels. It would be like designing a bike
using smaller wheels. For example, I've seen a
number of 49cm frames designed for 26" wheels and
the saddle was the same height above the pavement
as with a frame designed for 700c wheels. I would
imagine that the center of gravity was essentially
the same in both cases.
But the trikes that I've seen which were designed
for smaller wheels were all recumbents. As such, the
rider was much closer to the ground with the legs
pointing out towards the front. In fact, the ones
I've seen were so low to the ground that most of the
the riders mounted pennants on the frame to ensure
that they were visible.
Of course, such a trike frame could also be built
with 700c wheels if desired.
