Dear CR list members, Especially those in the Washington,DC metro area who missed the Baltimore RETRO RIDE last weekend I'm extending an invitation to join a PPTC club ride/RETRO RIDE. The ride will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday,NOV.11th at the Marshall,Virginia,V.D.O.T. parking lot, behind the town swimming pool. The ride is 42 miles through apple country, passing thru Markam,Hume, and Orlean,Va. "Real men"and woman can have some great spinach &mushroom quiche at one of my favorite ride stop's "THE ORLEAN STORE" or real "Virginia ham" at the break/rest stop mile 21.The weather should be great!Rider's are encouraged to wear modern helmets with their Retro Bicycles.Arrive early to show off your wheels. From DC Beltway take I-66 West for 36 miles to Exit-28(Business US-17 north for 0.7 miles into Marshall).Cross Main St.(VA 55) left onto Salem Ave in 0.1 mile and a right on Frost Ave in a couple blocks...go behind the pool to the Park and Ride lot. This ride will be a little slower pace than last weeks Chesapeake Wheelmen's Retro ride since we are all not ex-racers.The ride is a little hilly and we'll average 12-16 mph. Some wild machines showed up at The Baltimore Retro Ride but better still were some of the rider's and their stories and photo's of day's gone by.The Chesapeake Wheelmen were founded in 1946.Shawn had a photo albumn loaded with pictures from racer's and their machines from the "after the War" era.Lot's of Track racing steel on cinder filled tracks in Baltimore City. The tracks were cinder roads that circled City Water Supply-Clifford Lake. I told Shawn there is no "Clifford Lake" and he said it was "filled in" and now stands Clifford Lake High School on the site of the former resevoir. The local Baltimore Racing teams still race at two of the several remaining Resevoirs. I understand that a National Level CycloCross Championship is to be held in Baltimore in a little over a month from now around mid -December. Will the RICHARD SACHS TEAM be making an appearance at this Mid-Atlantic venue? e-RICHIE please give us a heads up.I'm sure there are many on the list who would love to witness some of the top racer's in this forum-"CYLCOCROSS" right in our own backyard. Yours truly, Martin Walsh in Vienna,Va. USA
