My best trick is to haunt eBay looking for Sugino cranksets. I've gotten two NOS for around $50 bucks, which is about 1/2 the cost of new chainrings in 144mm. Authentic Campy rings often exceed $100 a pop. BTW, any one want some Sugino Crank arms? I'll trade for a pair of 36 hole MA3s, or similar retro look clincher rims.

Hi everybody,

in my mentioned briefly before note regarding my resolve to buy no more bicycles til my wee one is out of college ('05), I am concentrating on bits and pieces and kibbles.

my question to the group (and one for which, if it has been asked and gone over a thousand times prior to this, I apologize for in advance):

where is the best source for NOS replacements of super record/nuovo record chainrings or cranks? I figure of the whole set up, this is the first (barring freewheels and chains, tires, all easier to fake or replace from my semi-non purist standpoint) to wear out, and most likely the hardest to obtain within reason. any suggestions, anyone?

if there is no viable source (ebay=not viable, really--bicycle classics occasionally?) is there a credible non-sr/nr--even--dare I say it--mod substitute that will not sear my eyeballs? I am thinking of this for my eisentraut NR ('74), sachs ('86) mercian ('86) and tesch (not SR or NR, but lovely early athena, '88 or so).

help, popeye!!

yours,

ricky of carrboro, nc

p.s. I do not deserve this bikes, for the record. I get all wheezy after a nice long ride.
