Garth, I'm so almost with you except two things. One is list traffic. If people start posting about deals and then testimonials and then rebuttals. It's not like we can really follow Lincoln-Douglas rules on the list. I know if the traffic doubled I'd be gone, and I'm sure others would be too. Second is that one person's "scam artist" is another's "good guy." We've already seen this on the list several times. I'll be up front and say of all the hundreds of things I've sold on-line I have a had a few "unsatisfied" folks. I've always tried to make things right, but sometimes you just can't make people happy. Many times the mistake is the person just read the ad wrong and was expecting something different. I've done that enough myself too, but never try to blame the seller. I may have 100x that number of people that give me two thumbs up, but it only take one unhappy person to ruin a rep. A shop manager I worked for once said, "If you do somebody right they'll tell a friend, if you do someone wrong they'll tell everyone."
There is a solution that won't destroy reps or the list, but it will take some people's time. It's mediation, and if someone want's to volunteer for it we could set something up. The only people who would need to know are the involved parties and the moderator. If the moderator see's something chronic they could consult Dale and ask for expulsion from the list. Though I really think it's too much since as a regular on and off list contributor I haven't seen any trends in people specifically tring to "scam" CR folk.
