I'm returning to the list after a fairly long absence and am delighted to see many familiar names have been carrying on as usual!
To refresh.. I'm Dennis Johnson of Visalia California (the heart of the HOT southern San Joaquin Valley of California - about 104 today).
I'll do a message later about the "stable" and interests but suffice it to say... quite a few Jack Taylors.. a SanRensho.. Specialized... etc. but now to the question.
I picked up a Peugeot and wonder if anyone can make an educated guess as to vintage and model.. It's an '80's machine I'm fairly sure.. but I've lacked for some years a truely French bike and the price was right..
Frame: Lugged Pearlescent white frame with Orange "Peugeot" in block letters. Plastic "rampant Lion" headbadge riveted on. All chrome fork. Labelled "Made in France" on one side of top tube.. "Hand brazed" in French script and English block on the other. Right chainstay says "12 Vitesse". Super Vitus 980 frame and fork.
Seatpost: Simplex.. interesting hinged-type of adjustment. Rims: Wolber Gentleman 81 Superlight clincher Quick releases: Maillard Speidel Fr. Hub: Normandy Red Label Champion R. Hub: Maillard Helicomatic (EEK!) 126mm Freewheel: What else? 13-21 Both Hubs 36 hole straight guage 14 spokes Brakes: Weinmann 605 sidepull Levers: Weinmann (w/ rotted covers of course) R. Derailleur: Simplex SX610 Peugeot badged F. Derailleur: Simplex (for brazed on fitting.. looks kind of like a Huret Alvit though clearly a Simplex) Cranks: 170mm Stronglight w/ drilled rings, badged Peugeot Stem: 11.8cm (bizarre, but so labeled) no brand but likely badged Peugeot on each side with labels long gone. Bar: "La Bonneville ITON 27190 CTA?" BB: Stronglight w/ Peugeot branded spindle Pedals: SR-SP-150 pedals, plastic clips, Christophe straps (original??) Saddle: Selle San Marco Concor (Original?)
Any help will be appreciated.. Don't know if I'm going to go to the trouble to try and find a Helicomatic tool to remove, clean etc the freewheel.. may just cut it out and use it as a paperweight like my Cinelli "Death Pedals".. Then replace it with a similar vintage Maillard hub I have in the Parts bin..
