Subject: [CR]120 spaced DOs and post 120 hubs

Hi Classicists,

My recently re-acquired Cinelli has 120 spacing. I have the original hub for it, laced to a tubular rim. However, I'd like to build up some clincher wheels for use on this bike, partly to save wear and tear on the original parts, and partly to give me better options for actually riding the bike in the hillier East Bay terrain. I have a campy high flange rear hub with 124 spacing. The flange to flange size is actually larger on the 120 spaced hub than on the 124 spaced hub.

I don't want to cut down an axle (can't bring myself to using a hacksaw on a campy part! Yes, I am odd about this. I have a box where I have kept all my worn out campy parts because I just can't throw them away.). So my questions are as follows:

What size axle should I get. Are there any special problems that I'll have in building up this hub shell, designed for 124 spacing but now with 120 spacing? Will using a shell with narrower flange to flange dimensions allow me to get an ultra-6 freewheel on there? Is it true that the NR rear has a capacity of 26 teeth?

Thanks so much for any answers.
