Arnie: Much of what you say has merit...but the comment regarding "bike boom" bicycles is ridiculous. When they are mentioned, they are on topic - you should know that if you read the rules. If you want to talk about 1930's lightweights, then start talking, and stop lurking. The topics discussed are ones of interest to the people on the list. If they all want to talk about the 1930's, then they will do so. And by the way, the 1970's are old to me, and I have no knowledge about bikes of the 1930's. Enlighten me. By the way, where were you, Jack Bissell, on Sunday? Thought you would be in Pasadena, and drove an hour to meet you!!! The ride was great, thanks Chuck! Stephan Andranian Costa Mesa, CA

I read the rules again, got the message loud and clear that off-topic posts will lead to banishment (bit scared to post anything actually!), read some of the archives.

Then these posts start appearing about the stiffness of bike frames-maybe of interest, maybe to do with bikes, not to do with old bikes so off topic. Some might argue that old bikes have frames therefore discussion about stiffness is on topic. Well bikes have tyres as well but would it OK to speak about rubber compounds in scientific terms? What about the tensile strength of brake and gear cables? Maybe I have not gone back in the archives-maybe they have already been discussed.

Then people start speaking about Campagnolo corkscrews. Sorry, never seen one of them on an old bike. Mine usually have a bottle opener brazed on somewhere. What is this crap. Will the frame stiffness people and the corkscrewed up people be unsubscribed. If not why not? There are enough lists for this sort of thing so why dont these people write about it there.

And where is the stuff about OLD bikes? Everything seems to be about bike boom bikes. They must be the most boring bikes ever made. Nothing seems older than about 25 years. Does no one have an OLD bike they want to talk about. A 1930s lightweight is an OLD bike. Seventies bike are not OLD just a bit of nostalgia which is not the same thing. Old BIANCHIS, old CINELLIS, old HETCHINS, old HOLDSWORTHS, old BATES-these are classic bikes, not 70s bike boom crap.

Can I ask the guy in charge of the list is he is going to take action and jettison all these off-topic people so you dont get a digest with 25 messages 90% of which are about complete crap! Sorry to make my first post a nagging one but I thought I had subscribed to a group about old bikes not corkscrews and framebuilders topics.
