Ross Shafer "The Early Years". Here's what I know. He started in Costa Msea, CA. I think it was late 70's. He told me one time many years ago that the reason he built his first frame was because he wanted a Wizard frame and could not afford it (at $375 for frame and fork in 1975-'76) so he took up and built one of his own. His frames at the time were called "Redbush". I seem to remember that they perhaps had the first generation of HJ lugs on them, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I believe he went to Santana after buildong some singles, probably touring oriented.

Hope that helps.

Brian Baylis La Mesa, CA Sorry I couldn't come out and play any earlier today. I had to really bust my behind to get some work done today. Same for tomorrow. I've got comments on "Mystique vs. Mojo", Framebuilders passing on methods to the tadpoles, and a mouthful of developments on my touring design; having had all day to think about all of the helpful comments and information passed along to me. All day long I was sketching, plotting, figuring, and sorting out my thoughts. The day ended just before sundown with a "Tubing Hunt" (Mike Kone will appreciate this) which resulted in my finding fork blades, chainstays, and seat stays for my bike exactly to my needs. More later.
