It is not surprising how many modern Campy small parts get used in a variety of different component models. It does save money, I'm sure. What is surprising is how many of the little parts differed between component models, back in the day. For example, the GS and Record / SR brakesets were similar in general appearance, but the majority of the parts were different, even if only in finish. I dunno, maybe Campy used just as many small parts in several models in the NR / SR era, but I remember thinking how cool it was that they chromed the adjustment screw springs on the SR rear der, but not on the NR.
