I think there is a very good reason why people refer to Nuovo Record pedals - these were the pedals that you got when you purchased a Nuovo Record gruppo or an "all NR" bike. Never saw anyone advertise an "all NR bike (Record pedals)". This would be more technically correct, but a bit anal as well. Sort of Like Schwinn having Reynolds make them special decals to clarify the fact that the stay weren't double butted - only the main tubes. True, but also obvious. The SR vs SL thing is a bit less clear, as there actually were Super Record and Super Light pedals manufactured at the same time. Nonetheless, most "all-SR" bikes came with SL pedals, not actual Super Records. I also believe, though Chuck may correct me, that the SL was manufacturer much longer than thr SR, so that for several years an SR gruppo would necessarily have had SL pedals, the SR having already been discontinued.

Given this history and customary usage, I don't think you can accuse an eBay seller of misrepresentation for selling an "all NR" bike with Record pedals or "all SR bike" with SL pedals. Even selling "NR pedals" separately is technically incorrect, but unambiguous. I'd assume the "SR" bike actually had SL pedals, though if I was really interested in bidding, I might email to inquire about the pedals. If bidding on "SR" pedals separately, I'd definitely try to establish whether thay were SLs or true SRs. It might be a task to get an answer, though, as most sellers won't have a clue what you are talking about - to most people steel cages mean NR and black cages SR.

Even though some like to hold up Shimano as an example of more consistent gruppos, remember that the Dura Ace gruppo for several years had a Crane rear derailleur, until they finally got around to marking it Dura Ace like everything else. This didn't keep bikes from being "all Dura Ace", and at the time it was probaby OK to call them "Dura Ace rear derailleurs", although now Dura Ace implys a slightly later model, while Crane denotes the ones in the first DA groups or sold in the years just before DA was introduced.

I might feel silly correcting someone on the Record/Nuovo Record issue, unless it was in the context of tracking the history of the Campy product line or something. If it was an Ebay sale for example, Nuovo works for me bacuse that's what most people called them (at least in my 1980's experience) and there is only one pedal even if people use two different names. The SR / SL thing is very different because there were two VERY different but similar-looking pedals with these names. Calling "Record" "Nuovo Record" is like calling "Tom" "Obsessive Tom," in that it isn't my proper name, but it works. Calling "SLs" "SRs" is like calling Tom Dalton, Marco Pantani - two very different people, but look similar... That is we both have four limbs.
