I don't believe geometry gets 'refined', it only changes. No value judgment made on my part. Every geometry choice is a compromise, or balance between desirable ride qualities. More of one thing usually means less of something else. Most people with lots of experience develop preferences for a certain style of handling that suits their terrain, ability, set of values. The only thing 'refined' over the last 70 years is the road surface, which explains a lot about geometry actually!
