I don't know for sure, but my guess would be a little later than '84.... need more pictures, especially around the bb.shell. Double water bottle bosses and pump peg are post '84 features. Check the inside of the steerer tube for rifling. My guess is SL or Cromor tubing. Serial # is useless. That semi sloping crown was also used on lower end Pinarellos even as late as '89, maybe even later.

Pinarello cognoscenti:

I recently acquired a Pinarello frameset on ebay and need some help in dating same:

http://ebay.com/<blah>

Having studied the catalogs on Mark's site, it appears most similar to the Mod. Record shown here:

http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/pinarello85/9.jpg

and described here:

http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/pinarello85/9a.jpg

While the frame has an indentical same paint/chrome scheme (i.e. both stays chromed and seatstay caps only) to the Mod. Record, the fork crown is clearly the older style (non-IC?) semi-sloping crown. Other lower end Victory-equipped models from the same 1985 catalog appear to use the older crown as well.

Other potentially salient details of my frame include: ST and DT bottle brazeons and HT pump peg. Spacing is 126mm. Tubing is not rifled at the BB so it isn't SLX (hopefully SL). Finish is red with sparse metal flakes (is that

the Team color?) over fully chromed frame. Anyone with '84 or earlier catalogs, bikes in the flesh, or knowledge of when the IC crown was introduced by Pinarello that might help narrow down the date? I forgot the serial number from the BB but could provide it if it would help.

Advance thanks and apologies for brushing against the cutoff for CR topics,

Charlie Young Honeybrook, PA
