The quickest and easiest thing to spot on the Valentino (a later, lower-priced derailleur) is the cast-on boss on the body of the derailleur where the rod exits, and the cage fixing screw on the front (instead of the top).

Note: the cages and rods aren't interchangeable between the Gran Sport (intro'd 1951)and the Valentino (intro'd 1964?).
