As a collector, I am intrigued. However, my personal opinion of De Rosa's prior attempts (35th, and all the Heritage series) leaves me skeptical. I give De Rosa credit for at least attempting those prior limited editions, but they all sucked, in my opinion. Too many issues to list. My feeling is if you're going to come out with a commemorative edition of something.....do it right. If that means having to charge more on the retail end, so be it. Half-ass attempts only tarnish the manufactures image. Plus, De Rosa's quality really went down hill in the '90s. I'll still be anxious to see what they unveil. I hope I'm impressed, but it's not likely. Again, just my personal opinion.

When researching some information requested by Ben Kamen, I got the following message back from Cristiano De Rosa that could be interesting news for list members:

From: De Rosa srl To: The Maaslands Sent: Thursday, November 28, 2002 12:29 PM Subject: Re: Alcune domande per Cristiano

( non ti dico come sara' ) Ti saluto Cristiano Dear Steven, Of the 35th anniversary bikes, there were 500 made. It is indeed true that next year will be a big celebration for the De Rosa family, a real jubilation and yes there will be a 50th anniversary bike that will be presented during the Giro d'Italia (No I won't tell you what it will be like). Regards, Cristiano

As they have shown some historical appreciation in the past, both with the re-issue of 'old paint' schemes and their 35th anniversary series, this could therefore mean that they might come out with something special for the true 'vintage' lovers. Let's hope so!
