I am happy to read that there is yet another soul who has bonded to his classic lugged model. This is a story that needs to be told again and again in an effort to recreate an old standard of pride and care in our lives. Sorry to hear that the Legano is bent and ailing, but you may be happy to know that in South Florida, I met just yesterday, a devoted racer who is also devoted to his classic Merckx (sp?). This racer has already had his early 80's Merckx repainted once and is scheduled for another this year. He will have it redone in original Molteni orange with the diamond shaped decal with Eddy on the headtube. The bike is all Campy and has over one quarter of a million miles on the frame, all put on by Hector, the original owner. Unfortunately the owner has succumbed to a modern seat, a USPS cycle computer, and CXp-21 deep dish aero rims. This is in a misguided effort to somehow make him faster. I, myself am willing to go for modern Look pedals, but they existed during the early 80's in some iteration or another. Hector, however, has opted for Speedplays which look oddly classic as do the modern clipless Campy pedals. Does anyone else on this group admire the sculpted aluminum art of the modern Look pedal? I think the original Looks look more modern and clunky then the most recent Looks. If you dropped down from Mars you might think the new ones are from 84 while the old ones are from 2002. I digress..... Garth Libre of Surfside Fl.
