Being over 200 lbs I am cautious and conservative, 36 hole rims, decent size tires, dropouts aligned, watching the road. I cracked a 126 spaced early Dura-ace axle when the freewheel pawls slipped underload. I was surprised at that, but then again it was a single speed setup and I was leaning on it pretty good and it was rather a violent 1/4 turn of the cranks! I hit a hole with a Campy Record hub on a Fiamme Ergal rim. The rim selflessly saved the hub and axle by self destructing! It soon became apparent I was way over what that rim was meant to carry. When I see other riders ride over potholes, seams in concrete roads, railroad crossings, etc.; I wonder where use ends and abuse begins. BTW: Back in the 70's and 80's did Campagnolo warranty the axles or was the customer on his/her own?
