I have seen a couple of English Hercules 3 spds that were very nice. With one of them, the bike shop owner had taken and put 700c wheels on and replaced the original brakes with some ten speed non-recessed bolt brakes.

Hercules was also a domestic German bicycle/moped/motorcycle (trash can lids?) manufacturer. US soldiers stationed around Nuremburg sometimes have brought them into the states. They also made utility bikes: http://www.sachs-bikes.de/Site_eng/history.php http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/3589/hercules-electra.html or http://c8m47.pi.tu-berlin.de/tandem/fixedgear_e.html (good shot of a Thompson BB on this page)
