John, et al:

I think this was discussed a while back, at least as regards Vitus as a tubing supplier. Before veering off into aluminum and carbon, Vitus supplied metric-sized tubesets in competition with Reynolds and Columbus. I have a '50s French bike with a Vitus 555 transfer on it; and the fabled lime green Meral, which it seems has been owned by 10% of CR listmembers at one time or another, is built of Super Vitus 971, a heat-treated predecessor to Reynolds 753.

I don't think they built steel framesets, though; just supplied the tubing.

Were there ever any lugged steel Vitus bikes ? I remember seeing some time back that you could get lugged steel Look frames made from Excel (I think) tubesets - just wondered if Vitus offered anything like that.
