Why would I if I could use it for thousands of miles with almost no maintenance then toss it an(d) buy a new one for $65. What good would rebuilding do?

Because: A) you can't rebuild the Shimano one, and B) for $10 extra, you could have bought the Campy (Campi, Campag, Campa, Campagnolo, Camp., Campagnola, Campanola) one that would have lasted more than your lifetime!!

Cheers & buy all the vintage Shimano stuff you want, it's still throw-away equipment,
