Group,

Carsten Rehbein (eBay: cyclo-24) of Germany has an exciting new web site for vintage lightweight bike enthusiasts that is international in scope.

Klassische Rennräder & mehr http://www.cyclo-24.de/index.htm (hint: click on the translation flags)

Fifteen bikes (nine jpegs of each) with complete specification lists are already featured on the site with more to come!

Here's a beautiful example: Bianchi Mod. Tour de France: http://www.cyclo-24.de/history/09/index.htm

Copied from Carsten's web site:

=========================================== •Point of View What I always associate with the term racing bicycle is lightness and perfection to comply with contemporary states of the art. The professional massed start racing bicycle has always been the motive power behind technological innovation in the cycle industry. Things that all cyclists can enjoy nowadays very often are developments which had not been possible without the racing bicycle.

Typical examples of this are the hub quick release, light alloy cranks or variable gears. Having originally been conceived for professional racing, today they can be found on every upmarket bicycle. Also the top racer is and was the conveyor of much of the prestige of any cycle brand. The racer explores new technological frontiers without being charged with the development costs which can be set off against the gain in popularity and the ensuing sales of cheaper models.

The bicycles in my collection (see History) show the development in racing bikes over a period of about 90 years. In any case they were the dream bikes of their day.

All the bicycles are in their original conditions and show their original paintworks. However, the collection neither claims to represent the development completely nor to be perfect.

Perhaps this website may help collectors to finish a restauration or to date a bicycle correctly. Its first and foremost aim however is to please those who are interested in racing bicycle technology and its development.

=========================================== •Members Only Area Members will find there a list of Campagnolo professional road racing groupsets from 1946 to 1988. They are in chronological order and well documented by photographs. Numerous detail photos help members to date components and to find out model names as exactly as possible. This collection of photos must be the most complete of its kind in the net to date. A presentation of other makers´ groupsets, like the Simplex Professionnel, is being worked on at the moment.

Moreover, each month two road racing machines from the last one hundred years will be presented with the help of photos. These machines are in their original conditions. A data sheet and their makers´ potted histories will complete the presentation. The aim of all this is to create an archive which will enable the collector to date his or her bicycles or to rebuild machines correctly.

The restricted club area is supported by collectors from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the US, the UK and Japan. It will frequently be supplemented.

A year´s subscription is 5 Euros or 5 US Dollars.

The club area will be launched on August 1st 2002. Should you not yet be a member, you can register at club@cyclo-24.de. Upon receipt of your membership dues, you will receive the necessary password for access by email.
