Mark,

San Marcos and Carlsbad are very near one another. The original location was Carlsbad. The MC stayed with the markings until about 1984; even though the frames were actually built in Rancho Santa Fe and San Marcos for quite some time after the original location was relenquished in about 1978. Tesch built the frame you have in the fourth quarter of 1983, frame #28. That would be just before the change to the "SMC" in the serial numbers. Relax, the earth is not changing its' axis of rotation. Everything is in order.

Tesch, former listmember who worked for Masi, told me he built my frame in 1983 San Marcos. He asked questions, saw the pics, asked about the Masi engravings on the chrome fork crown, the fork being oval new continentals, and I presume other tippoffs. We never discussed the GC in the serial number and as a newbie I was much too dumb to think of it.Is there something amiss here?Could Tesch have built
