Well, my post about the various bikes I picked up last week generated a lot of on/off list activity (especially regarding the Fuji). Numerous people had requested pictures of some/all so I have started with pictures of the Super Modia frameset. I do not have a site to post them to but if you are interested, just drop me an email off-list and I'll send you them direct. I've also sent dale the pictures should he desire to put them on his CR site.
I do have some pecific questions:
1. Can someone clarify the differences between a Mondia, Super Mondia and Mondia Special? My 1975 edition Bikecology catalog lists the Special frameset as a "touring classic" with the chromed Nervex Pro lugs, fade paint, etc. They also list a Mondia Criterium bicycle (not just frameset) which as you would assume is a racing bicycle "combining a short wheelbase and steep angles with a comfortable fork rake for easy steering." The bike is high end full Campagnolo NR. The pictures are b&w but the bike clearly has long point lugs and does not feature the fade away paint. My frame has long point lugs too (but different) and the non-fade paint, no eyelets, Campagnolo NR headset, etc but has the other unusual features listed below. Was mine some unusual racing cyclo-cross frameset? 2. Does mine have a model name? 3. Has anyone ever seen another like mine? 4. Anyone with a catalog featuring this model or something similar? 5. Any previous Mondia dealers out there to help?
Here's a copy and paste of my original post with this frames unusual details:
Super Mondia frameset. Serial number 338233 and then a separate stamping of 82. Does this mean 1982? This frameset is NOS and really neat. Full Reynolds 531 DB, Mafac canti braze on studs, nice chromed fork crown with no room to drill a brake hole, non-drilled rear seat stay bridge, chrome socks front and rear with Olympic stripe decals for the chrome/paint transition, lots of fancy pinstriping, surprisingly tasteful decals compared to all other Mondia's I've seen. Stunning mid/dark ocean blue with gold lug outling. Campagnolo d/o's with no eyelets, Hayden Concorde long point lugs with cutouts, braze on TT cable guides/stops (ala Raleigh International) that are located on the very top of the TT, under BB guides and chainstay cable stop, cable stops also brazed on bottom sides of lower headlugs and no DT shift braze ons or clamp stop so clearly made for bar end shifters, extended steerer tube (about 1"), Campagnolo NR headset. Exactly my size too. Anyone have details about this model? Any and all info greatly appreciated.
