I look at my kids and some of their schoolmates, and I'm very impressed with the things that they tackle and how well they do them. It's true that they don't love bikes like I do and don't tinker with them much, at least at this point in their lives (they're 11 and 14), but they have other passions to which they apply themselves. In my judgment, they are both self-reliant and adventurous, and I see it as my duty to develop those traits in them.

I know that this is just anecdotal, just like others' observations. However, I'm impressed with many of the young people of today that I've seen. I realize that they live in a different world than that of my youth, and cannot be expected to always act the same way that my generation did.
