Steven, I have found that some Ebay sellers (one of whom is a list member) never leave feedback even after this is brought to their attention. So I have begun withholding my feedback until the seller has posted his/her feedback. One's feedback is a reflection of character and an aid in establishing a reputation for reliability in the business of buying and selling on Ebay. When difficulties arise in a transaction a history of positive feedback helps to smooth the way to an amicable settlement. It is true, as someone else said earlier, that no feedback is better than negative feedback. However, I don't think that I am unreasonable in expecting others to show the normal courtesies of civil conduct in a business transaction. In face to face transactions we smile and shake hands. We say "Please" and "Thank you" even if we don't mean it sometimes. Why pick a fight? I cannot leave negative feedback for a purchase that went well and proved to be as advertised simply because he refuses to leave feedback. I can extend to him the same consideration that he shows to me though. I conduct myself in an ethical manner and ignore him as he ignores me once the transaction is complete. I always acknowledge receipt of the item purchased and recently I have begun stating that my feedback will be posted as soon as I see theirs. I am sure that some sellers are offended. I feel a bit awkward in taking this position but I'm not being unreasonable in expecting others to show me the courtesy of a thank you at the end of a smooth transaction.
