Bar-mounted bottle cages disappeared from the pro ranks about 1964.

Cages with open/close clamps are primarily intended for use with aluminum bottles, which disappeared from the pro ranks in the late 1950s. Plastic bottles flex, allowing them to insert and fit securely into non-clamping cages.
